About

How it all started

Hi. I am Shawnee Randolph, a molder of words, an expander of ideas and a teller of stories. From a young age, I was drawn to the written word. Scribbling stories into a notebook was like unlocking a magical door to a new world, and the key—a yellow no. 2 pencil.

Storytelling

Fiction, even more than the art of writing itself, is my first true love. In the form of books, movies, plays, music, the modality doesn’t matter; I’ve always felt the magnetic pull of storytelling. In the past couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to tell stories in a new format: content marketing. This one kind of snuck up on me, like an unsuspecting fate looming in my shadow. A little scary at first, but I eased right into my new role. And I soon realized she was more like a long lost friend than an intimidating demon.

Organizing Ideas

One of my favorite challenges is collaborating with the other members of our creative team. I prefer to sit back and listen as their ideas and thoughts flow for an upcoming ad or campaign. I’ll throw in a couple of my own ideas, of course. But at the end of our session, I take their input and ponder on it for a while. I like to chisel at it, then mold it and fire it, until I’ve made sense of all our pieces, and have rearranged them into something shinysomething that wows. The end product is not just words, it’s a story and a concept. I’ve come to trust this team of graphic designers, social media specialists and videographers, so when I hand over my carefully crafted words, I know they will treat it well and bring it to life through design and imagery. Being the scribe for a band of creative illuminators has given me the opportunity to see my words come to life.

Beyond the Pen

I am a native of the Pacific Northwest, currently living in Bismarck, North Dakota with my husband and two daughters. When I am not writing for my day gig or writing my novel, I enjoy spending time outdoors (yes, even in the Winter in ND). I like hiking, kayaking and have even dabbled in cross country skiing and snowshoeing. I also enjoy yoga, baking, cooking and the occasional craft.
